At least it the nightmare wasn't that terrifying this time, judging from Max' reaction.

Is that the Charlie-Brown-Vase "burning" on the shelf?

When posting I was having trouble recalling whether the fire was due to a car accident or something else.

Poor max.....he seems to be getting more consciously aware of the nightmares, they're less random terrors more hidden pain

Still dark (but then again, anxiety and trauma nightmares often are)...but nt as bad as they used to be.  The power of friends who care, perhaps?  Lili knows if I remember right...Bill, too.
Let the healing begin, I hope.

I'm hoping that means that the healing process has begun, especially since he's having dreams/nightmares of the fire over the disjointed and freaky ones he used to get.

Talking about "dark" and "burning", the Peter Paul & Mary version of "It's Raining" has a line that goes:
"Lady bug, lady bug, fly away home.
Your house is on fire, and your children,
They will burn, they will burn."

Now I'm not sure what the official meaning of it is, but when I first heard the song, I thought of kids playing hide-and-seek who got trapped in a burning house (I took/pictured the song literally as I'm really bad with metaphors, similes, and allegory).

This comic just brought that song to mind from the "burned boy" part.  I'll be happy to be corrected if my interpretation is wrong.

Sounds like you're a fellow "Aspie" (someone with Asperger Syndrome, now officially called "high functioning autism")

Anyway, the song lines are an adaptation of an old nursery rhyme, but I'm not sure where the rhyme came from.  Many of the old nursery rhymes were disguised political commentary, such as "Georgie Porgie" and "Humpty Dumpty" which were both about kings and their (mis)deeds and/or fate.

Yip, I'm very much an Aspie; I'm on the spectrum.  ^^

Interesting about the nursery rhymes.  I recall hearing a rumor as a kid that "Ring Around the Rosie" was actually a reference to the Bubonic Plague, but that's apparently false.  Still, I didn't know that about Humpty Dumpty.

Well, the "false" part refers to the rhyme coming into existence when the Plague affected London in the years prior to the Great Fire.  It's false because historical evidence shows that the rhyme existed prior to that time.  However, it could still be a reference to Plague since Bubonic Plague also existed long before London.

As explained by Bigwig in the book "Watership Down" it's a charm that you're supposed to say out loud when you see a ladybug at the top of a flower. They're up there so they can take off anyway, but seeing them fly off after you've said it makes you feel like you influenced their behavior.

"Watership Down" is one of my favorite books!  Granted, it's been years since I've re-read it, but I can't believe I forgot about that.
Thanks!

Sounds to me, based only on the lyrics you've provided, like they're trying to encourage a woman to go back home because her children are suffering in her (ex?)husband's care.

But, yeah, that actually seems like a fitting song for this! Max lost his family in a fire (literally) and now the pain of that lose is eating away at him (metaphorical fire). Good observation!
