Younger Days - June 19th by dcrisisbeta Younger Days - June 19th by dcrisisbeta
Well, that's a life lesson I've been learning the hard way recently
one CAN'T allow oneself to be sad all the time, specially for the bad things that happen outside our control and the choices we make

I'm sorry this strip was supposed to be published yesterday. And I should apologize for stuff that happened recently might affect the outcome of new strips beforehand... sorry.

I knew it was a letter X3

I hope Jowy said the right kind of words this time and not something totally off the wall like he usually does...

Ha, it was a letter! ...ok, that was quite obvious XD

Your statements both in and out of the comics are true. That's one of the best lessons you can learn from an sad event... You're taking the right approach here!

"How odd. The speech center of my brain wants to strangle a word in self-defense."
So what does Max enjoy doing? What would be really want to be doing right now instead of whatever he's gotta do? What is fun for him?

Max is always sad it seems. It's good that he has so many people on his side.

Yeah, I once remarked that with all Max has been through, and considering the hand he's been dealt by life, if he didn't have as many people who love and care for him as he does (or if Fernando were more evil), he'd have cracked a loooooooong time ago.

Though I do understand why Max is sulking so much. Even if he's got lots of friends to come to his aid when he needs it, he's REAAAALLLY sensitive about his size. I've often speculated that Max does a lot of the stuff he does not only to prove to others that he's a "big boy" and not a toddler, but to prove it to himself as well. Then, after all the (sorry, Max) "baby steps" and strides, something like the freak incident at school happens and sets that cause leaps and bounds back. His frustration is almost palpable.

One of the reasons I love this comic is how I identify with Max when I was his age, as I was very small and usually thought to be younger than I really was. Where it really showed through was in sports, where I was much smaller than any other player. I learned later (and still now) that you are what you are and what others think of you based on your appearance doesn't need to have an effect (even if I am still mistaken for a high schooler many times to this day).

Although my situation was different than Max's, so I can't speak for him entirely. One thing is looking like someone younger, and the other thing is when there are actual physical things you can't do (ride a bike, swim, stay home alone, stay dry at night, etc.) that can make the situation worse.

And finally, a small part of me doesn't really want to see Max grow up, just because of how cute it is to try and see him do things that he obviously can't do.

I've always been large for my age,but at the same time, baby faced, so even though I'm about to enter grad school, some people think i'm in high school. I take it as a compliment, because I wanna hang onto the youthful features as long as possible. I wanna look like i'm 17 until I hit somewhere around 25. That way, hopefully, I'll look like 28 when i'm 40, lol.

As for that last part, I don't think ANY of us want to see Max grow up. It's kind of why i'm glad this seems to be a time-frozen universe where no one ages. Dcrisisbeta has made it so that Max looks like a small child while still being young enough to have not grown out of some of thpse tendencies typical of said small child, and at the same time still old enough to be relatable to readers. Any older, and he'd either be physiologically AND psychologically stuck as someone half his chronological age, which would just be weird, or he'd age and therefore lose his cute factor, which is a good 85-90% what's made him so beloved.

I hear that. It just sort of happened to me, but as I'm entering the workforce more people are taking notice of how I look younger, and now I may be trying to stay that way. Entering my junior year of college, but I still almost got a free fishing license as they thought I was 16.

I wasn't as socially aware when I was Max's age, but to my knowledge I could have been a nine-year old that looked much younger. So much so that people often thought my younger brother was my twin.

I totally get where Max is coming from. Anger and sadness are necessary emotions, but feeling that way for extended periods on end is just exhausting. Too much work. Probably why I can't stay mad at someone for longer than half an hour.
